En route to our Lake Superior summer vacation, we decided to take the scenic route from from Colorado to Minnesota. On our way from Wall, SD to Mount Rushmore, we were surprised and delighter to find Independence Hall along the highway — conveniently located between Reptile Gardens and Bear County (just like it is in Philadelphia).
While we did not venture inside, Independence Hall: Home of the Founding Fathers apparently houses all 47 founding fathers in life-size mannequin form. While the Liberty Bell Replica in front of Independence Hall (SD), is not South Dakota’s official 1950 Liberty Bell Replica, it is full size, golden bronze and shiny. Unlike the original 55 Liberty Bell replicas which have painted-on cracks or no cracks at all, this bronze bell features a false crack which allows it to still produce a nice ringing tone. The bell was purchased from the Christoph Paccard Bell Foundry in Annecy, France, the foundry selected by the U.S. Department of Treasury to cast the original 55 Liberty Bell replicas in 1950.
Yes, you too can purchase your full-size Liberty Bell replica from the Christoph Paccard Bell Foundry.
