As kids growing up in Pierre in the 50’s and 60’s, we hid a small ball peen hammer in a stone wall across the street from this bell, and would ring it occasionally to see if we could get the principal of the junior high to run out of the school a few yards down Capitol avenue. Lost the hammer to him one day!
